Our Community

Who is the Colonnade Community?

The Colonnade Community is YOU – the residents of the 560 apartments in the C & D Buildings.

At the very least, when all of the apartments are occupied, there are 560 of US who live in, and are part of the Community. In actuality, there are probably more than 2000 of US in our Colonnade Community.

We are  people of all ages, ethnic groups, occupations, economic status, abilities, backgrounds, cultural groups and family types. If each of us eligible Community member were to vote, we would have the potential to impact the outcome of elections.  If we are represented at Newark City Council meetings, we have the potential to impact decisions by making our thoughts known.

Are you a Registered Voter?

Communities have something in common.  Ours shares common basics, joys and sorrows, beautiful sunrises, sunsets and scenery, some beautiful surroundings, including a fabulous park, the Basilica, and let’s not forget elevators.

We also share and suffer from some common problems.  Each of us – every one of us – our children, our partners,  family and friends who live with us – are part of the Community.

Our Community is part of other communities – local, regional and national. We are among the community of tenants, voters, who matter and contribute and are represented in our neighborhoods.

    Good Evening!

Earlier in the week, a young lady who lived with someone, returned home to find the apartment door locked and an eviction notice posted on the door. Apparently, she lived with someone and the apartment lease holder had been missing for over a month and subsequently, the rent hadn’t been paid. From my understanding, there was at least one previous notice issued.

The young lady contacted a couple of tenants here in the Colonnade, one of them accompanied her to the Colonnade Management Office, but due to legal restrictions, the young lady was not allowed in the apartment to claim her belongings. At this point I don’t know what happened after that.

The point is that if you, or anyone you know, are living with someone here at the Colonnade Apts. it is strongly recommended that you have your name(s) included on the apartment holder’s lease. This will avoid any potential future complications. It is winter, it’s cold and no one needs any aggravation whatsoever because of failure to follow legal guidelines.

    Thank you!
